On October 29th, Jiang Zhiying, Secretary of the University Party Committee, visited the School of Foreign Studies to conduct work research around implementing the central inspection and rectification tasks, implementing the spirit of the central talent work conference, promoting normalized epidemic prevention and control, learning and educating party history in the school, and overall construction. He also visited and comforted all teachers and students, carried out related work of “Do practical things for teachers and students”, and solicited opinions and suggestions for the 15th Party Congress that the school is about to hold. Jiang Zhiying emphasized that the School of Foreign Studies should actively integrate into the overall situation of the party and state undertakings and school work, take one step at a time, make new and greater contributions to the construction of “Double First-Class” in schools, and reach new heights.

Jiang Zhiying exchanged views with the leadership team and teacher representatives of the School of Foreign Studies in the conference room. On behalf of the school and President Zhang Xi, Jiang Zhiying fully affirmed the outstanding achievements of the School of Foreign Studies in talent cultivation, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, international exchanges and cooperation, and helping to build “Double First-Class”. He also expressed sincere greetings to all teachers and staff of the college.

Jiang Zhiying emphasized that the School of Foreign Studies has a glorious tradition and profound heritage. In the past 71 years, the School of Foreign Studies has grown together with New China and Jilin University. After several generations’ hard work and tenacious struggle, it has made outstanding contributions to China’s foreign language education and talent training. In future work, first, we should focus on national major strategies and serve regional innovation and development. It should take the initiative to act in response to national and regional development needs, strengthen services, give full play to our disciplinary talent advantages and language communication advantages, and improve our scientific research and consultation level. Second, we should focus on improving the quality of talent training and deepening educational reform. We should always regard talent training as our fundamental task, highlight our characteristics in educating people, work hard to improve teaching quality and talent training results. Thirdly, we should focus on building a high-quality faculty team and strengthening talent introduction and cultivation work. We should thoroughly implement the spirit of the central talent work conference, combine it with our professional development reality, comprehensively train, introduce and make good use of talents, create an environment for recognizing talents, loving talents, respecting talents and using talents. Fourthly, we should focus on cross-disciplinary integration of disciplines and promote academic exchanges and cooperation. Based on a new starting point and finding new directions, we should correctly understand the development situation, key points and directions of foreign language majors, actively explore the road of cross-language communication, cross-professionalism and cross-discipline integration. We should continue to expand our efforts in open education and constantly improve our internationalization level. Fifthly, we should focus on school key work and effectively integrate it into our work. By doing a good job in school key work to promote comprehensive work in colleges, we should integrate college work arrangements into school decision-making deployment, and work together to achieve results at every step to ensure consistency between top-down coordination.

At the symposium, Liu Changsong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Studies, reported on the progress of party history learning education in the college while Zhang Meimei, Dean of the School of Foreign Studies, reported on college development construction. The participants conducted exchanges and discussions around discipline construction, faculty team building, talent training and other aspects.
