On December 17th, 2021, School of Foreign Studies held a symposium for the retired teacher Su Jiugao in Room 318, building of foreign language. The retired professor Su Jiugao, Party and administrative leadership of School of Foreign Studies, together with representatives from the teaching staff of the Japanese department attended the symposium.

Secretary of the Party Committee Liu Changsong introduced Professor Su Jiugao’s successive posts, important professional affiliations and his awards received. Dean Zhang Meimei first reviewed the history of the development of School of Foreign Studies to commemorate the efforts of our predecessors. Then she highly praised Professor Su Jiugao, one of the most recognized scholars in the field of Japanese studies in China, for his outstanding contributions to the development of the discipline, the construction of the Japanese department, and the cultivation of talents in School of Foreign Studies, Jilin University. On behalf of the School and the students, Dean Zhang Meimei expressed our heartfelt respect and gratitude to Professor Su Jiugao. She vowed to remain true to the original aspiration of developing School of Foreign Studies with adherence to the duties from generation to generation. After Dean Zhang Meimei, Professors Xu Mingzhen, Hu Jianjun, Associate Professors Fang Ying, Zeng Tingting and Song Ting, as the representatives of the Japanese Department, recalled from different perspectives the dribs and drabs of Professor Su's instructions and expressed their sincere gratitude for the professor’s dedicated nurturing. Professor Su Jiugao shared his own study and working process, and expressed his deep affection for Jilin University and School of Foreign Studies. He emphasized his hope for us to continuously cultivate outstanding talents in the field of foreign languages. After retirement, Professor Su Jiugao would continue to contribute to the academic fields related to foreign languages and help with the development of School of Foreign Studies as possible as he can.
