At the invitation of School of Foreign Studies, Jilin University, at 8:00 on November 1th , 2022, Ms. Kim Jina, professor of the Graduate School of Advanced Translation and Interpretation at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, doctoral supervisor,experienced translator, senior foreign expert of China's “Thousand Talents Plan”, expert for reviewing interpretation textbooks of CATTI held by China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, committee member of selection and evaluation of interpreting and translating talents of the Korean government, held an academic lecture titled “functionalism and translation”, through Tencent conference platform. The lecture was hosted by Ms. Kim Jung, dean of Korea Department, with more than 70 participants including students and teachers from the Department of Korean as well as other departments and universities.

In the lecture, Professor Kim Jina talked about “deletion”,“amplification” and “coherent practice” and some other skills of “Chinese-Korean” and “Korean-Chinese” interpretation and translation, which can highly improve efficiency and accuracy. By deletion, redundant information can be omitted according to the principle called “6 W”, that is, who, when, where, what happens, what’s it and how, and by amplification, we can get a manifested, simplified, standardized and leveled out translation.

After the lecture, participants raised questions in the comment area through typing or voice input and Ms. Kim patiently answered all of them in detail. The whole lecture lasted for 70 minutes. At the end, everyone present expressed their great gratitude to Ms. Kim Jina’ s excellent lecture.
