To help teachers of our school clarify the direction of the National Social Science Fund project application and improve the quality of it, on the evening of December 15, 2022, Wang Mingyu, former Vice president of Tianjin Foreign Studies University, head of the Institute for Translation and Intercultural Studies, chairman of the Committee of Semiotics of the Association for Logic in China, President of the Chinese Language and Semiotics Studies Association, and member of the core team of the National High-end Think Tank of Central Compilation and Translation Bureau, gave an online lecture entitled "Sharing of Information and Achievement on Social Science Fund" on the Tencent conference platform. The Office of Humanities & Social Sciences Research and the School of Foreign Studies of Jilin University co-hosted the lecture, which was presided over by Ms. Zhang Rui, Vice president of the School of Foreign Studies. Nearly 50 teachers from related disciplines of Jilin University participated in the lecture online.
Professor Wang Mingyu started the lecture with the topic of project analysis. Through such direct methods as inserting pictures, illustrating diagrams, and enumerating numbers, he focused on regular projects in the lecture from eleven perspectives: project distribution, number of unit-initiating projects, project number, subject distribution, distribution of unit-initiating projects, keywords analysis, the hottest researches, research theory, research methods, research background, and research dimensions. In explanations, based on the overall grasp of regular projects, Professor Wang emphasized sharing relevant situations of foreign language subjects. For example, in keywords analysis, Professor Wang not only explained the key terms like corpus, speech act, translation strategy, and metaphors, but also analyzed the important words in foreign literature like narration, intertextuality, identification, ethic, and so on, which broaden thinking for teachers to choose topics. In addition to the regular projects, Professor Wang also introduced the specific composition of major projects, the specific items of major projects, the status of project approval over the years, the bidding process of major projects, and other contents, helping the teachers form a basic understanding of major projects.
When talking about the project review, Professor Wang clarified the review strategies and procedures through a detailed explanation of blind review and interview review, and compared the similarities and differences of project reviews on key projects, optional projects, non-consensus projects, interdisciplinary projects, major projects and others.
Finally, based on his own experience, Professor Wang took his own project approval of the National Social Science Fund in 2022 as an example, and shared his reflections and experiences in five aspects: research background, research reason, research content, research methods and anticipated results.
After the lecture lasted for 2 hours, the teachers asked Professor Wang questions by leaving messages in the chat area, and Wang answered them. Everyone expressed their appreciation and gratitude to Professor Wang Mingyu for his wonderful explanation.
