On the afternoon of June 15, 2021, at the invitation of School of Foreign Studies of Jilin University, Professor Liu Ruomei from Beijing Foreign Studies University, distinguished alumna of the Department of Russian Language and Literature of Jilin University, visited our college and discussed discipline construction and some other issues with teachers of the Russian Department.
Professor Liu first recalled her student years in Jilin University with a fresh memory of its solid teaching foundation and excellent research atmosphere. She introduced the teaching and research requirements of BFSU before sharing in detail her own course of scientific research, analyzing the dialectical relationship between teaching and research and exchanging views with teachers of the Russian Department on such issues as talent cultivation, discipline construction, and teacher training, etc.
For the question of how to change the research perspectives against the background of the construction of new liberal arts proposed by the young teachers of the Russian Department, Professor Liu suggested that we should explore related research fields based on those we are familiar with instead of blindly following social hot topics and that we should adhere to our own research direction and integrate theory and practice continuously. For example, literary studies can be undertaken in the context of broader cultural backgrounds like social history, ideological history, cultural history and so on. During the two-hour symposium, Professor Liu Ruomei exchanged ideas with teachers of the Russian Department on the current development of the discipline and put forward some pertinent suggestions.
