The Semifinal of the 10th All China Interpreting Contest came to a successful end. After an intense competition, Yang Kaiming, a postgraduate student in the MTI Program majoring in English Interpreting from the School of Foreign Studies of Jilin University, won the first prize in the northern division of the semifinal after coming first in the quarterfinal. She advanced to the national final successfully, achieving the best result in the school’s history and becoming the first contestant from Jilin University to enter the final.

The northern division has the largest number of contestants among all major divisions in the country, with more than a thousand contestants from Tianjin, Shandong, Shanxi, Henan, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Competing with many excellent contestants, Yang eventually stood out in the intense semifinal. Her success is a validation of the teaching and training mode for the MTI Program in the School of Foreign Studies.

Organized by the Translators Association of China under the guidance of China International Communications Group, the All China Interpreting Contest is one of the oldest, largest, and most prestigious interpreting competitions. Following the country’s major policy of deepening reform and opening up and pursuing the goal of selecting foreign language talents for the country, the contest designs the events carefully to comprehensively examine the contestants’ all-round skills and truly demonstrate their language application ability. The All China Interpreting Contest 2021 has attracted participants from practically all universities in China and many overseas universities and colleges in the United States, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Singapore, and other countries.
